R. Bobby Persad was born in Trinidad. He came to New York at an early age and went directly into performing. He joined the Family Repertory Company in '78, working closely with Mr. Marvin Felix Camillo. He performed in a number of their productions, including "The Crucifixion," "The Marriage Proposal" and "Throw Down." Mr. Persad later joined A.C.P.T. There he started directing and acting in productions of "Hakim," "Impact" and "Midnight Blue," among others. Mr. Persad has taught acting with the Ricans Children's Theater Company and other theater companies in New York. Among his numerous movie and television credits are "The Equalizer," "Miami Vice," "Bonfire of the Vanities" and "The Little Patriot." Together with his writing partner, he co-wrote the screenplay for "Purple Paradise." He also acted, directed and produced the movie. Directing his first feature film and working with Mr. Ron Randall was an exciting learning experience, he says. Mr. Persad has studied with Raul Julia, Gilbert Price, Penny Allen and Mr. Camillo, among others. Mr. Persad has also directed numerous commercials and was producer/director of a half-hour weekly television series. His most recent commercial was for Nike "League Sports," and he most recently completed the independent movie "Blue Nails." Bobby has finished writing and directing four commercial spots for a prestigious alarm company and completed his fourth full length feature.
